What if the key for scale-up was beginning with the end in mind?
To mark Older Persons Day on October 1, one of our researchers, Dr. Heather Macdonald shared her insights in a blog for the International Society of Physical Activity and Health (ISPAH). The focus of the blog is scaling-up health-promoting interventions for older adults in British Columbia.
Thoughtful scale-up can make a lasting difference. Drawing from our Choose to Move intervention model, Dr. Macdonald highlighted what sets our team apart when it comes to scaling-up health-promoting programs: “we begin with the end in mind”. This means designing the intervention and delivery approach at the outset so they can be adapted for different contexts and scaled-up.
Since 2015, we have scaled and adapted Choose to Move, working with community organizations across British Columbia. Scaling up physical activity and other health-promoting interventions requires several factors: time, resources, interventions, and delivery approaches that are designed to be adaptable, yet stay true to the core functions of the original intervention.
